Chocolate Bird’s Nests
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 2 minutes
Total Time: 12 minutes
Ingredients:
1-1/2 cups cereal, such as Rice Krispies or Corn Flakes
1 cup chocolate chips (milk, semisweet or dark chocolate)
Candies that look like bird eggs: peanut M&M’s, jelly beans, Cadbury mini-eggs
Optional : marshmallow peeps
Preparation:
Place cereal in a large bowl. Set aside.
Place chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat on high 1 minute. Stir, and continue heating in the microwave in 30-second increments until the chocolate chips are completely melted.
Pour the chocolate mixture over the cereal, and toss with a spatula or large spoon to coat the cereal well.
Using a baking tray lined with tinfoil, place a few spoonfuls of the chocolate mixture, forming little nests. Make an indentation in each nest with the back of a spoon. Put a few egg-shaped candies in each of the nests. If they won’t stick, use a dab of peanut butter or marshmallow cream to secure them.
Once the nests have cooled completely, store in an airtight container.
For a non-chocolate version of these nests, use mini marshmallows melted with a little butter instead of the chocolate chips ( use 3 tablespoons of butter, 1-10 ounce package of mini marshmallows and 6 cups of cereal)
